Pursuing growth in a low-growth environment, whether in the United States or in emerging markets abroad, is now "job one" for most every company. Such efforts are certain to spark innovation and drive new strategies, further testing risk management, compliance, and governance processes. Given these pressures on companies and management, the audit committee's continued focus on internal controls, audit plans, and financial communications is essential--and all the more challenging.
Through moderated panel discussions with seasoned directors and business executives, we'll explore how management and boards are assessing their companies' competitive positions and adjusting their strategies as they search for growth in the midst of a tenuous economic recovery.
Among the questions we will explore:
- What are the key considerations for audit committees as they assess management's growth strategies? What risks do these strategies pose, and what are the implications for internal controls and audit plans?
- What are the risks associated with doing business in emerging markets? How can these risks be managed effectively?
- How are audit committees overseeing tax risk? What are the key tax risks companies are facing today, as well as leading practices to manage these risks?
- How are audit committees carrying out their oversight responsibility in connection with the company's financial communications--including earnings guidance, earnings press releases, analyst calls, and disclosures--and in helping to achieve transparency?
