Mark Northan is a partner in KPMG's Department of Professional Practice - Audit and Advisory in New York City.

Mark's responsibilities in the Department of Professional Practice include consulting with engagement teams on complex accounting and SEC matters, development of the firm's professional accounting literature, and development and presentation of technical training for internal and external audiences. Mark is the head of the Fair Value and Debt-Equity Topic Teams in DPP. Mark also focuses on technical accounting for financial instruments including securitizations and derivatives.

He rejoined the Department in July 2006 after completing a two-year appointment as a Professional Accounting Fellow in the Office of the Chief Accountant at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. At the SEC, Mark's responsibilities included consultation with registrants on accounting and reporting matters, the study and development of rule proposals under the federal securities laws, and liaison with the professional accounting standards-setting bodies.

Prior to his appointment at the SEC, Mark was senior manager in KPMG's Department of Professional Practice - Audit and Risk Advisory for one year. Prior to joining DPP, Mark worked in KPMG's Charlotte office serving one of the firm's largest financial services clients.

Mark received a B.S. in Accountancy from Wake Forest University.
