Sir David Tweedie

Sir David Tweedie was educated at the University of Edinburgh (B.Com., Ph.D). He qualified as a chartered accountant in 1972, and between 1973 and 1978 he was a lecturer in the Department of Accounting at University of Edinburgh. Subsequently, he served as technical director, Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (1978-1981), National Research Partner, KMG Thomson McLintock (1982-1987) and National Technical Partner, KPMG Peat Marwick McLintock (1987-1990). In 1990, he was appointed the first Chairman of the U.K. Accounting Standards Board (1990-2000), and the Chairman of the Urgent Issues Task Force.

He has received a number of honorary degrees and professional awards, including the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales's Founding Societies Award (1997), awarded annually to a member who has made an outstanding contribution in any field of endeavor and the Chartered Institute of Management Accounting's CIMA Award (1998), awarded to nonmembers of CIMA who have made an outstanding contribution to the profession, and was awarded an Honorary Fellowship of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.

He has been a visiting professor at the University of Lancaster International Centre for Research in Accounting (ICRA), the University of Bristol, and the University of Edinburgh.

He was knighted in 1994 for his services to the accounting profession.
