Based in Washington, DC, Eric Federing is a senior strategic advisor to partners, practices and clients nationally for KPMG LLP.

Eric's responsibilities are anchored to legislative, regulatory, political and public policy trends and actions. Since joining the firm as a Director in 1999, Eric's portfolio has progressively expanded from in-house counsel, to external representation, to political/business risk management.

Prior to joining KPMG, Eric was a senior congressional adviser in the United States Congress, in both the Senate and the House. During his 12-year tenure, Eric was experienced in the broadest range of issue analysis, opinion-making and consensus building. Eric served as Press Secretary to Senator Joe Lieberman of Connecticut; as Director of Communications for the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee (f.k.a., Public Works and Transportation Committee); and, Press Secretary to Rep. Norman Y. Mineta of California.

In 1999, soon after joining KPMG, Eric founded and continues to direct pro bono a non-partisan internship program that brings a dozen Australian university students to Washington, DC for two-month full-time internships in the US Congress. The program has been recognized by both the Australian and US governments and praised in the Congressional Record and in the Australian Parliament. Eric received a Washington, DC office KPMG Chairman's Award for volunteerism in 2004.
