Mary Pat McCarthy is Executive Director of KPMG’s Audit Committee Institute (ACI) and serves as a U.S. Vice Chair, KPMG LLP. Her background as an audit partner has given her extensive boardroom experience and hands-on involvement with public offerings, mergers and acquisitions, and the Securities and Exchange Commission. As head of the ACI, Ms. McCarthy speaks extensively at director forums – including those sponsored by the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD), Directorship magazine, Board Member Inc., The Conference Board, and The Practicing Law Institute – on corporate governance issues with a focus on emerging challenges and practices related to audit committee oversight. She has also served as a member of numerous NACD Blue Ribbon Commissions. In 2008, 2009, and 2010, she was recognized by Directorship magazine as one of the most influential people in corporate governance and the boardroom.

 

Ms. McCarthy is a co-author of five books published by McGraw-Hill, including Risk From the CEO and Board Perspective, and she is widely quoted in leading business journals. She has been a guest speaker on technology and financial topics at industry forums such as the Financial Executives Institute and Aspen Summit. She previously served as a director for the Tech Museum of Innovation, San Jose, CA, and the Leavey Graduate School of Business at Santa Clara University.

 

Ms. McCarthy graduated from Creighton University, magna cum laude, with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and completed the KPMG International Development Program at the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School. Ms. McCarthy is a licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in California, Kansas, and Missouri and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the California and Missouri CPA societies. In addition, she is involved in various civic and business activities, including the United Way.
