Concurrent Session I-C: IFRS: An Ongoing Journey
|
| |
As we move closer to implementation dates in North America, the accounting and business impacts of adopting IFRS continue to be prominent issues for executives and directors. In the US, the focus is on convergence, while in Canada the focus is on the sprint to the finish line with a 2011 conversion requirement. Regulatory, RRA accounting, and ongoing compliance and process issues abound. We will discuss how companies that are at various places in their journey are addressing some of the key issues and also share our views on what lies ahead.

Day 1: Luncheon and Keynote Address: "A Contract with the Earth: 'The Case for "Green Conservatism'"
|
| |
Challenges to the health of our environment are many and transcend history, nationality, politics, culture and religion. For Newt Gingrich, responding to these challenges is a question of "how to" -- not "if" -- the Earth can be renewed and revitalized. Gingrich cautions against relying on the government alone to institute change: instead he suggests that government should act as a facilitator, offering incentives for innovation and helping to reduce red tape as American entrepreneurship drives environmental solutions. In a presentation based on his book, A Contract with the Earth, Gingrich provides insight on environmental problems accompanied by a series of solutions unlike any other on the topic. His "green conservative" solutions are inspired by the same traits that made American great: ingenuity, know-how, and entrepreneurial spirit to solve problems swiftly and competently in order to preserve an abundance of resources for future generations.

Concurrent Session II-C: Global and Local: Finding the Better Balance
|
| |
Large energy companies are striving to better balance their focus and performance improvement between business units and increased emphasis on common processes across business units. Business units are great for local autonomy and accountability; increased emphasis on common processes is better for delivering core competence and superior economies of scale. This panel will look at how different companies are working to create a successful blend and to manage the change challenges that go with it. Effective use of people, organization, and leadership are key ingredients in getting the blend right. This panel will address how to implement change of this nature in practical, hands on, proven techniques.

General Session: Outlook for Energy - A View to 2030
|
| |
ExxonMobil's Outlook for Energy - A View to 2030 provides a perspective on global and regional energy supply and demand over the next two decades. We see economic recovery and growth, improved living standards, and a reduction in poverty. But meeting the world's growing energy needs while also reducing the impact of energy use on the environment will pose a tremendous challenge - one we expect to be met with promising new technologies.
