Five years ago, discussions between audit committees and company officers-the tax directors or perhaps the CFO-were infrequent. Boards had not subjected the tax function to the same degree of challenge, oversight, and management as they did other parts of the business. As a result, tax risks had historically received only cursory attention outside the finance function at many companies.

Audit committees have now developed greater sensitivity to the economic, financial reporting, and reputational risks that taxes can pose for their companies.

This TGI video Webcast discusses the audit committee's role in the management of enterprise tax risk. Topics discussed include identifying the areas that tax risk may arise; aligning tax risk management with the overall corporate profile; and facilitating the exchange of tax risk information between the audit committee and corporate management.
~Wed, 03 Oct 2007 17:00:00 GMT~

While tax risk management has traditionally been viewed as a task reserved for an organization's tax director or, perhaps, chief financial officer, the increasing financial and reputational stakes associated with an organization's tax planning necessitates the involvement, or at the very least approval, of the organization's overall philosophy on tax risk management by the board.

This video Webcast focuses on tax administration in the U.K. and the OECD. Panelists discuss the relationship between revenue bodies, taxpayers, and tax intermediaries and how this relationship may influence the revenue bodies' ability to assess the tax risk presented by taxpayers.
~Wed, 05 Mar 2008 21:00:00 GMT~

On January 26, 2010, Commissioner of Internal Revenue Douglas Shulman announced that the IRS would require large corporate taxpayers, for the first time, to provide a concise description of their uncertain tax positions and information about their magnitude. Calling the proposal "a major step toward transparency," Shulman said the Internal Revenue Service is working on a schedule that taxpayers would be required to submit with their federal tax returns.

Announcement 2010-9 raises important conceptual, definitional and practical issues affecting the tax function, management, boards of directors, auditors, and independent advisors. It also solicits public comments to be submitted to the IRS by March 29, 2010.
~Tue, 02 Mar 2010 19:00:00 GMT~

On October 26, 2011 Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp (R-MI) released a bold, comprehensive discussion draft of a territorial (participation exemption) system to replace the current system of taxing business income earned outside the United States. The draft also proposes a maximum corporate tax rate of 25 percent. Multinational companies have been advocating a change to such a system, in which income earned outside the United States is taxed where earned and not subject to further tax when repatriated. Others, such as Senators Wyden and Coats, suggest that "deferral" should be ended and all foreign income subject to U.S. tax currently.

During this live video Webcast the panelists will analyze the specifics of the discussion draft and contrast it to current law, other territorial systems and the alternative of a more comprehensive worldwide system.
~Tue, 01 Nov 2011 18:00:00 GMT~
